EDUCATIONAL ROUTES IN MADRIU-PERAFITA-CLAROR VALLEY

The best way to preserve our heritage is to bring it within reach of the younger generations, so that they can learn about it and respect it.

With this aim in mind, the Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley offers a programme that is both educational and fun: it enables youngsters to discover the treasures that the valley has guarded throughout the years and which have earned it UNESCO World Heritage Site status.

The valley is here for children to discover
To help them discover the Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley, there are teaching guides for younger visitors, as well as the corresponding field notebooks and a special passport. The different activities, which are always designed with fun in mind, encourage children to interact with their surroundings in this spectacular natural space. The overall aim is to encourage their observation skills and awaken their curiosity in the world around them.

As well as parents, instructors and/or guides, youngsters will be accompanied on their excursions by Mena the fox. For each teaching guide, she’ll lend them a hand. By simply following her tracks, children will discover the different elements that make up the life of this remarkable ecosystem. Mena’s curiosity knows no bounds! She’ll show youngsters how to recognise and identify the calls of different birds and the tracks of different animal species, which are often hidden and difficult to see. She’ll also point out flowers and the different types of tree that are found in the woods, as well as a number of traditional, man-made constructions that form part of the traditional working life of the valley, which principally involves agriculture and livestock farming.

Teaching guides and field notebooks
There are three teaching guides, each with a corresponding field notebook. Each guide is designed for a specific age group, so that children can take notes and write down their answers to the activities suggested by Mena the fox.

A) ‘Let’s Explore Around Entremesaigües’ is a guide for children aged from 5 to 8. It is an easy, circular route that takes around 1.5 hours to complete.

B) ‘Lets Explore Around Entremesaigües and Ràmio’ is a guide for children aged from 5 to 12. It is a circular route with a medium difficulty level and takes around 2.5 hours to complete.

C) ‘Observing the Landscape of the Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley’ is a guide for children aged from 8 to 12. It is a linear route with a medium difficulty level and takes around 2.5 hours to complete.

The teaching guides and field notebooks also have a special incentive: the Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley passport. After children have completed all the tasks required of them, they can exchange their work for a gift at the Valley Gateway office on C/ Prat de la Creu 74-76, baixos, in Andorra la Vella.

You can find all of the information on the educational programme for children on the Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley website.
