TREKKING IN GRANDVALIRA

If you love the mountains and are a sports enthusiast, you must try the trails that Grandvalira has to offer. Spread across the parishes of Encamp, Canillo and Escaldes, they have different levels of difficulty.

Routes from Canillo

What better way to start the day than going on a hike packed full of activities? Grandvalira offers you 11 routes that will allow you to explore the most out-of-the-way paths in the parish. You can go on long hikes, discover remote lakes and climb to the highest peaks, and even follow via ferrata routes. And why not finish the outing with an excellent lunch in one of the high-altitude restaurants, or spend the night sleeping in a mountain refuge!

Routes from Encamp

In addition to the routes from Canillo, Grandvalira offers other options for trekking in the parish of Encamp. In this case you can choose from 6 routes each lasting 3 hours, with different levels of difficulty: easy, medium and difficult.

The options include a long walk by the Pessons lake, eating there in the Llac de Pessons restaurant; an outing following via ferrata; ascending the high altitude peaks (Pic dels Pessons, Pic de Ríbuls or Pic Alt del Cubil); or, if you prefer climbing, scaling sharp mountain ridges of different levels of difficulty. All these routes include lunch, and they start from different points, so that you can begin the route from Pas de la Casa, Grau Roig or from Encamp.
Route to the Refugio de l’Illa
Finally, Grandvalira’s last proposal takes place in the parish of Escaldes, and involves following the hiking trail of the Refugio de l’Illa, which can be either a daytime or a night-time outing, as you prefer. The daytime outing begins from several possible points of departure and ends at the refuge, where you will be greeted with a delicious lunch to help you get your strength back. But if you are looking for something to get your adrenaline going, you really should try the night-time outing: with a single point of departure from Grau Roig (Encamp) you will follow trails and paths through the very heart of the Pyrenees on a journey of over 5 hours, until you reach the Refugio de l’Illa, where a succulent dinner prepared with local products will be waiting for you. Relax with a hot shower as soon as you arrive, make yourself comfortable and continue to enjoy the night!

About the mountain refuge:

The Refugio de l’Illa, located at an altitude of 2,488 metres, in the Valley of Madriu-Perafita-Claror, has a capacity for 50 people and is fully equipped to satisfy all your needs and ensure that you have a comfortable stay, including a bed with sheets, shower with hot water and Wi-Fi, as well as a full catering service. You’ll feel right at home!

Enjoy trekking more than you ever have before in Grandvalira!
